For the Deco Mesh Fans: A Halloween Ghost

This Halloween Deco Mesh Ghost is delightful and not at all frightful. After last week’s Deco Mesh Halloween Topiary, I realized that Crafts ‘n Coffee readers love Deco Mesh crafts. So, a big “thank you” to designer Patty Schaffer for sharing another Halloween Deco Mesh craft with us. Her Halloween Deco Mesh Ghost is just adorable!

To make a Halloween Deco Mesh Ghost, you’ll need:

BOO!

To make a Halloween Deco Mesh Ghost:

1. Paint the wood dowel black and let dry. (Hint: Insert dowel into a scrap piece of STYROFOAM Brand Foam to hold it upright while it dries.)

2. Insert wood dowel into 4” ball. Remove the dowel, add glue to the hole, and reinsert the dowel. Let the glue set up.

3. Push the second foam ball down into terra cotta pot. If needed, trim ball with a serrated knife till it fits. Glue ball in place. Insert dowel into the foam ball, remove, add glue to hole, and reinsert the dowel. Let the glue set up.

4. Cut Deco Mesh into 7” wide strips. You will need about 46 strips for the ghost. Cut the wire into 46, 3” lengths.

6. Roll a mesh strip into a tube shape. Fold in half and pinch at the center, making a “V’ shape. Secure with a wire, twisting to hold the tube tight. Repeat for each Deco Mesh strip.

7. Insert the wire ends into the foam ball. Repeat, till the ball is covered.

8. Form the end of a chenille stem into a flat loop, small enough to fit on the back of a wiggle eye. Glue a wiggle eye onto the loop. Repeat for the other wiggle eye. Let glue set up. Insert the chenille stems into the foam ball. The chenille stems can be trimmed if needed.

Cut the tombstone from corrugated cardboard, paint it, and stamp on the letters.

9. Cut two arms out of the white foamie sheet. Insert them in between the mesh tubes. Spot glue in place. (Patty chose to not glue the arms in place so that she can remove them when she stores the ghost for next year.)

10. Crumple newspaper and use it to fill the pot up to the top. Glue the newspaper in place. Glue sheet moss over the newspaper.

11. Cut a 2-1/2” x 3-1/2” tombstone from the corrugated cardboard. Paint all sides of the tombstone gray; let dry. Use black ink and stamps to add R.I.P. to the front of the headstone. Nestle the tombstone into the moss and glue in place.
