How pretty are these glittered roses made from pages from an old book?

To make a Paper Roses Valentine Wreath, you’ll need:

  • STYROFOAM™ Brand Foam: 6” Open Heart Wreath (or you can cut a heart from a 1” sheet, and make it as large or small as you like)
  • Fabric, ¼ yd.
  • Beading pins
  • Pages from an old book
  • Glitter
  • Glitter Glue
  • Low-temp glue gun
  • Large glue dots (optional)
  • Tools needed: Scissors; paintbrush; newspaper or shallow box

To make a Paper Roses Valentine Wreath:

1. Cut fabric into 1” wide strips. Pin a strip to the back of the heart wreath, and wrap the strip around the wreath. Continue to wrap your wreath with fabric strips till the wreath is covered.

2. Make 55 – 60 paper roses. Note: Patty worked with three layers at one time for a fuller rose. You might want to practice making roses using just one layer at first. To make your roses*:

  • Layer together three, 3” squares cut from the page of an old book.
  • Round the squares into a circle.
  • Cut in a spiral from the edge of the circle to the center.
  • Begin rolling up your circle, starting with the outside edge, and continue rolling till the entire strip is rolled up, forming a rose. For variety, try rolling some roses tighter, and some a little looser.
  • Secure the rose by placing the bottom on a glue dot, or secure with low-temp glue.

3. Glue roses onto the wreath, placing them close together.

Place your roses close together on the wreath. If you like the look of the plain roses, you could skip the glitter.

4. Brush glitter glue onto the centers of several roses. Working over newspaper or a shallow box, sprinkle glitter onto the glue and tap off excess. Repeat, until all of the roses are glittered. (Note: Working over a newspaper or a shallow box will make it easier to clean up and re-use the excess glitter.)
