Come Tango with Tangerine, the 2012 Pantone Color

You know how a little citrus zest or a squeeze of lemon can liven up a dish? It’s the same thing with the 2012 pantone color – Tangerine Tango. Tangerine Tango is fresh, bright, and kind of zippy. Squeeze on a little, or a lot, to freshen up your home décor. I pulled together a few ideas for adding this vivacious color to your home, whether it’s a little DIY wall art (or the wall itself) or perhaps just a striking accent.

I’ll start with one of my favorites – our Vibrant Bistro Wall Art. This DIY wall art is made with scrapbook papers and a 1” x 12” x 36” sheet of STYROFOAM Brand Foam. You can make all three panels for less than $50 and in just a few hours. This DIY, scrapbook wall art makes it easy to enjoy this year’s hot color without making a major investment in time and money.

The vibrant orange, yellow and red scrapbook papers warm up the room.

Think you want a little more tango with that tangerine? Then go bold and paint a feature wall (or two) in vibrant orange. Add a neutral accent, like our Disc Drama Wall Art, and you have a zesty focal point. The Disc Drama Wall Art is another super-easy DIY wall art project – we covered our foam discs with paper, and wrapped a 1” ribbon around the sides. Use poster putty to hang up your discs and you’re done. All of the drama is in the decorating, not in the making!

Not a single nail was used to hang this wall art.

Here’s another idea for your orange wall – our Woodland Birch Bark & Twigs Wall Art. The neutral colors and textures provided by Mother Nature work well against the warm orange wall.

The deep orange walls are the perfect backdrop for Mother Nature's neutral palette.

You’re not convinced that you want to paint your walls orange? Here’s a way to add a splash of Tangerine to you décor – hang up photos like our Gerbera Daisy Photo Wall Art. You can shop for similar photos online, or enlarge one of your own using an online photo service. It’s an inexpensive way to create custom wall art.

I love these gerbera daisy photos shot by Dina Ross of Studio Rossi.

If you’d like a tangerine accent or two, you might want to check out our Gerbera Daisy Cube Topiary. The cube gives an unexpected and contemporary “edge” to the more traditional, round pomander. These are super-simple to make – you simply trim your flower stems to about 2” and then insert and glue the stems into a cube of STYROFOAM Brand Foam.

The square shape of this topiary is unexpected.

The Contempo Gerbera Daisy Cubes add just a dash of this season’s hottest color, and their contemporary styling will add fresh style to your home. I know I’m repeating myself, but this is another quickie project: wrap a foam cube in scrapbook papers, and then insert a single gerbera daisy stem. Such easy style!

The orange gerberas are striking, but you could use other colors, of course.

I think this Orange Roses Wreath & Bamboo Centerpiece really captures the essence of orange – it’s warm, charming, and just a bit exotic.

Bamboo adds an exotic flair to this centerpiece.

And for our finale, here’s another take on our scrapbook wall art – the Vintage Bistro Wall Art. The warm orange tones are paired with gray, creating a more subtle palette.

DIY Wall Art

Nine sheets of 12" x 12" scrapbook papers and nine 1" squares of STYROFOAM Brand Foam are all you need to recreate this wall art.

So, are you inspired to do the Tangerine Tango? Do you decorate with orange in your home, or do you plan to introduce it this year? I’d love to know what you think of the 2012 pantone color.

Happy crafting!

Well, mostly orange is reserved for fall, but, frankly, after seeing all these great photos, I might change my mind after all. Great inspiration for sure — thanks for sharing!

We’re definitely scared of oranges over here. Our house is a soft powdery sky blue. But my mom loves bold colors, her living room is a deep orange color one one side and a yellow on the other. She has all wood furniture so it kind of matches, I guess. It’s not for me-I’m not that adventurous, LOL
