We’re hopping down the bunny trail today, and Mr. Rabbit is the grand marshal of this parade of Easter crafts. I’m sharing a Yarn Bunny, and linking to 13 more Easter bunny crafts. I hope I have an Easter bunny for everyone, with bunnies made from paper, socks (two sock bunnies!), even loopy chenille (more on that later . . .) and a steampunk bunny. Some of these Easter crafts are for kids, too, who no doubt need a little something to keep them busy till the real Easter bunny comes. It was a lot of fun pulling together these Easter cuties – enjoy!

Yarn Bunny

To make the Yarn Bunny, you will need:

• STYROFOAM Brand Foam: 4” egg
• White yarn (fuzzy yarn works well)
• Scrap of white felt
• 10mm wiggle eyes
• 3/8” pink pompom
• Grey quilting thread
• Thick white craft glue
• Optional: Pink chalk
• Tools: Scissors; craft pins; wooden skewer; serrated plastic knife

To make the Yarn Bunny:

1. Cut a small slice from the wide end of the egg using a plastic knife. The egg should be able to stand.

2. Place a dab of glue on the narrow tip of the egg and using wooden skewer, poke the end of the yarn into the foam egg; secure with a craft pin. Wind yarn tightly around the narrow point of the egg, adding a small amount of glue as you go; continue winding the yarn around the egg, keeping yarn close together. Add craft pins, if needed, to hold yarn in place till glue dries. Keep winding till egg is covered, and glue the end in place.

3. Cut out 3” ears and a 2 ½” x 2 ½” heart (for feet) from white felt.

4. Using wood skewer, make two small slits in narrow end of egg for the ears. Add a drop of glue in each hole. Fold the ears in half at the base. Using the skewer, poke end of each ear ¼” deep into slit.

5. Snip the point off the heart shaped feet and glue the feet to the flat bottom of the egg.

6. Glue on wiggle eyes.

7. Tie a knot in the middle of 3-5 strands of grey quilting thread to make whiskers. Pin the whiskers to the face. Glue the pink pompom on top of the knot.

8. Optional: Add a hint of pink to the ears and cheeks using chalk.

The next two bunnies could be somewhat controversial . . . They’re made with loopy chenille, and it seems like people either love or loathe the stuff. I think it’s hard to be a loopy-chenille hater when you can make a Honey of a Garden Bunny with it.

Here’s another idea for a bunny that’s a little loopy – the Loopy Chenille Bunny Candy Holder from Factory Direct Crafts. (I mean really, how can you not like a bunny with a belly full of candy??)

For a touch of whimsy, craft Three Baby Bunnies & One Very Big Carrot from felt and foam (no sewing!). They’re designed by Debra Quartermain, of course.

Also by Debra Quartermain is the needlefelted, steampunk-style White Rabbit. Debra’s inspiration is the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland.

Super-sized Purple Peeps Topiary

I’ve saved my favorite for last – this super-sized, three-foot-tall replica of a Marshmallow Peeps Bunny. Eileen from The Seasonal Home shares her springtime front porch with Craftomaniac, and she shows how she fashioned her super-sized Peeps Topiary from a 2” thick sheet of STYROFOAM Brand Foam. I think it’s a lot of fun.
