Summertime salute: A mesh ribbon wreath in red, white and blue (and another giveaway!)

Are you a fan of Deco Mesh? I’ve shared some fun Deco Mesh crafts, like the Deco Mesh Topiary or Deco Mesh Halloween Ghost. Recently, I saw something new at Jo-Ann Stores – rolls of mesh ribbon only 6” wide. I was intrigued. Sometimes, Deco Mesh projects turn out really big, and I wondered how the smaller mesh would look. I made a Summertime, Deco Mesh Wreath with the 6” mesh and while there’s still plenty of springy pouf, its more tailored size just might fit in smaller spaces. (And what’s that, another giveaway? Read on!)

A new Deco Mesh Wreath for the summer! On CraftsnCoffee.com.

To make a Summertime, Deco Mesh Wreath, you’ll need:

  • STYROFOAM™ Brand Foam: 12” wreath
  • Deco Mesh, one 6” wide roll each of red, white and blue
  • Silver glitter ribbon, 1-1/2” wide
  • Tools needed: Scissors; floral u-pins
I like the sparkling silver ribbon in this Deco Mesh Wreath. Really festive! CraftsnCoffee.com.

The sparkling silver ribbon makes the wreath more festive.

To make a Summertime, Deco Mesh Wreath:

1. Cut a length of red Deco Mesh into 2” wide strips, and wrap the strips around the wreath. Pin the Deco Mesh in place.

Step one in making a patriotic, Deco Mesh wreath. CraftsnCoffee.com.

First, wrap your wreath in 2″ strips of mesh ribbon.

2. Cut the following pieces of Deco Mesh:

  • 20, 9” lengths of red Deco Mesh
  • 10, 9” lengths of blue Deco Mesh
  • 10, 9” lengths of white Deco Mesh

3. Roll up a strip of red Deco Mesh, forming a tube. Pinch the tube in the center, and pin it to the wreath with a floral pin. Continue making tubes and pinning them to the wreath till you’ve covered about 2/3 – ¾ of the wreath.

4. Repeat, rolling and pinning the blue Deco Mesh strips to cover the rest of the wreath.

5. Fill in bare areas with the rolls of white Deco Mesh.

6. Cut seven, 9” lengths of silver ribbon. Pin them at random around the wreath.

7. Pin and glue a ribbon loop to the back for a hanger.

The mesh ribbon is easy to work with, and you can make this wreath in less than an hour.

It just so happens that FloraCraft, a fabricator for STYROFOAM Brand Foam, also makes Deco Mesh. I asked if they would provide a prize package to make this wreath, and they said “yes”! If you’d like to win 6″ rolls of Deco Mesh in red, white and blue; a package of floral pins; and a 12″ wreath of STYROFOAM Brand Foam, then leave a comment below telling me about your summer crafting plans. What do you hope to make in the coming months?

Please leave your comment by next Thursday, May 29, and I’ll announce the winner on Friday, May 30. I can’t wait to hear what you’re going to be making.

Enjoy the long, holiday weekend and happy crafting.

Sharon

  8. Norma McDonald says:

Me being a military mother, and aunt, I would love to have the opportunity to win something like this. I have been wanting to learn how to use the mesh. But over the next few months, I am doing 4th of July decorations, and after that Holiday, I start things for Christmas. I have many plans for Christmas wreaths this year. As far as the Styrofoam Company participating, that is wonderful. I feel like I should own stalk in Styrofoam, I as use a lot of it. Always love working on crafts, relieves a LOT of stress. Thanks again for the opportunity to win something like this!

I think I should like to make a pink and pale green wreath for my bedroom after I have had a try with this very patriotic one. Keep up the good work.

The Deco Mesh is available in lots of colors, so I’m sure you could find pink and green. This would be really pretty in a bedroom! Thanks so much for stopping in. Sharon

  11. donna says:

I think this is a very nice wreath for the 4th and hope to make one. Also plan on making a beach themed wreath and hope to find some new ideas for Christmas wreaths to work on.

    • Sharon says:

Hi Donna, You might want to check out the tutorials on Crafts ‘n Coffee for making beach wreaths with driftwood, seashells and sea glass. I have lots of other wreath ideas, too, including Christmas wreaths — just use the search window to find them. Happy crafting. Sharon

  12. Kate D. says:

My summer crafting plans include finishing up some bracelets and assorted projects that I started over the long, cold, snowy winter here in upstate NY. A brand new Hobby Lobby just opened up in my town (right around the corner!!), so I am excited to see what’s new there.

  13. Vicky G. says:

What do I plan to make? If I ever get my craft room straightened out (I am trying to organize it but never realized how much stuff I really have lol) I plan on making a lot. I’ve got painting to do and tons of Christmas stuff I want to work on for gifts this year.

    • Sharon says:

I love to work in an organized space, don’t you? What’s on your Christmas craft list? (Wait till you see the new feature that starts today on CraftsnCoffee!) Happy crafting, Vicky. Sharon

Can’t wait to try this!

    • Sharon says:

Hi Sue, Thanks for stopping by, and welcome to Crafts ‘n Coffee. This is an easy wreath to make, and you’ll love working with Deco Mesh. If you can roll ribbon into a tube, you can do this. Happy crafting! Sharon

  17. Lynda says:

Very cute….think I will make one

  18. I will be working on my Texas State Fair entries, mostly crochet, for most of the summer.

    • Sharon says:

Wonderful! I love the “home arts” display at our state fair. The handiwork is always beautiful. I’m sure yours will be, too. Sharon

  19. April Adler says:

I am excited to make this wreath! I LOVE making the mesh wreaths, so many ideas! Thank you for sharing. I plan on making this very wreath!

  20. CraftyB says:

Love the patriotic red, white and blue. Perfect for the front door.

  21. lorihb says:

My daughter is getting married in August. I think I am going to make this wreath in her wedding colors to use for her shower and as decorations for the outdoor ceremony and reception. I have been busy crafting the flowers for the participants and the decorations for the ceremony and reception. Busy me!

    • Sharon says:

I’m honored that you plan to make this wreath for your daughter’s wedding. What are her colors? It sounds like a busy but very happy time for you. Enjoy. Sharon

  22. studiorose says:

I’m working on travel journals. This time of year I start to daydream about visiting far-away places. The best trips involve crafting retreats or conventions, of course!

    • Sharon says:

I’m curious — which crafting retreats/conventions have you attended? And, where would you go if you could? Sharon

      • studiorose says:

Last year I went to the “Create” mixed-media retreat in New Jersey; my dad lives there and it happened to coincide with his birthday, so I couldn’t NOT go. It was so much fun and I can’t wait to go to another. A couple of years ago there was a CHA convention in Jacksonville (2 hours from me) that allowed non-craft business people to attend, and it was fabulous to see all the new and upcoming products!

I dream about attending retreats and conventions all the time, but can only afford the time and $$ to go about every two or three years. Still, I enjoy planning “fantasy” trips; I use a travel site to estimate costs for transportation & hotel and add up the classes I’d take, etc. Sometimes planning is half the fun, even if you don’t go!

      • Sharon says:

What a treat to go to a “Create” event. It sure would be nice to attend more, but you’re right, it’s an issue of time and money! In the meantime, a girl can dream! Sharon

  23. Mary Nordt says:

This is yet another beautiful creation from you! I follow you intently and love everything you do. I always try to decorate our home in a patriotic theme from May thru July. This covers Memorial Day, Flag Day in June and of course, the Fourth of July! We just love showing our American Pride and I think this wreath would be a very welcome addition to our front door! God Bless America!

  24. annehaun says:

Wow this wreath is beautiful. This summer I hope to get an early start on crafting for Christmas – decorations and gifts. I know this is easier said than done but wish me luck!!

    • Sharon says:

Thanks, Anne. I’m planning a special feature this summer for Christmas crafters — be sure to check back in on Tuesday. I’m pretty excited about it! Happy crafting. Sharon

  25. Lora Howard says:

Since I will be getting married at the end of the summer (late August) I’ll be working on things for the wedding, as well as, decorating the outside of our apartment. We have a concrete mushroom that has SO MUCH detail, but you don’t see it, because it’s strictly “concrete color”, so I plan to personalize it by painting it thus emphasizing all those details!

  26. Kathy Klein says:

This summer I am planning to finish up my requests for a cork wreath, fabric wreath, a Halloween wreath, a burlap wreath, and make Santa Claus and snowmen water bottles for our children for the Moose Christmas party. I also have to finish cross stitching the Wizard of Oz figures and baby blanket embroidery for charity projects as well. I am also knitting scarves for my husband’s relatives in my spare time. It is going to be a fun but busy summer. I provided 90 water bottle Easter bunnies for the children at our Fraternal Order of the Moose lodge and now I have been asked to design snowmen and Santa Claus figures. I would also like to see about making some witches for our Halloween party – Time is the only thing I need more of – Do you have any to spare? Take care and thank you for sponsoring this giveaway.

    • Sharon says:

Oh my goodness, you’re going to be busy! Boy, don’t you wish you could buy more time? Thank you for all you do for those in need. I’m sure it makes a difference. Sharon

  27. Melva says:

I am so glad to see smaller (less poufy) mesh ribbon. Now, I will try hand for decorative wreaths.

  28. Nancy D says:

I still have a empty hook on my door so I think first on my list should be a pretty summer wreath :)

  29. Heather says:

I really need some outdoor decorations! My porch and flower beds are bare! I love this wreath! Very festive!!

  30. Tina says:

I would like to make many of the wreaths shown here! Patriotic, summer, Fall, Thanksgiving….All of the upcoming holidays……….and some just for fun!! Great site…Thanks!

  31. Diane Whitmarshby says:

I’m planning on making a Tx star theme wreath with a metal star hanging in the middle and bluebonnets (silk flowers) inside the wreath with red, white and blue fabric. I would love to try Deco mesh. I have seen some cute ideas on your site to try.

  32. Melissa Mills says:

I have finally graduated from college after 3 very long years so my summer is going to be awesome! I have seen so many great craft ideas on this site, I don’t know where to start! I love this red, white, and blue wreath idea and I can’t wait to get started crafting again…..Oh how I’ve missed thee!! :)

    • Sharon says:

Congratulations to you! That’s a wonderful accomplishment, and you deserve a little crafting fun this summer. Maybe you’ll win, and we’ll kick-start those crafty plans of yours! Good luck. Sharon

  33. Birgit says:

Lovely wreath, Sharon! Though I live in Germany, I love to celebrate 4th of July, as the USA is dear to my heart. If I don’t get around to craft something for Independence Day, I might bake this cake again:

    http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_h9ly2wDenes/SG3T7RPdPGI/AAAAAAAAATg/9Zk5fdart1U/s1600-h/04.07.+Flag+Cake+02.JPG

    Hugs,
    Birgit

    • Sharon says:

How sweet of you — thank you for celebrating with us! LOVE your cake — it looks mouthwatering! I hope you have a chance to both bake and craft for July 4th. You’re planning ahead, so maybe it will happen. Thanks so much for stopping in today! Sharon

  34. I had planned on making some 4th of July wreaths for my family from burlap ribbon, but I sure like this idea better!!

  35. Pam Brooks says:

I would make a 4th of July wreath!

  36. Carolyn says:

I am working on several beach bags. After reading this I need a new wreath!

  37. Linda Keller says:

Have been working on mandelas for my backyard fence! Needed some color and they will spruce it up!

  38. Lynn Jackson says:

Oh wow I am a huge fan of deco mesh. Never thought to use the styrofoam to make one what a genius idea! Will be trying this out!

    • Sharon says:

Thanks, Lynn. Have you made anything with Deco Mesh? Sharon

      • Lynn jackson says:

Oh yes I have. Last year was the first time I saw deco mesh and it was found at Hobby Lobby so I got something they call a working wreath and made a Christmas wreath and it was so much easier then people may think but I never thought to make one with Styrofoam and I think it would be easier to work with.

      • Sharon says:

I agree – Deco Mesh is easy to work with. I’ve not used a “working wreath” so I really can’t compare. It is super easy to use the wreath of Styrofoam — you just pin on your roll and you’re done. Sharon

  39. I am going to be busy making invitations, favors, decorations, wreaths and thank you cards for our housewarming party at the end of the summer. I will also be making cards and home décor just because I love making them! Would LOVELOVELOVE to win this prize package because it would give me a headstart on the wreath making process and I would also use some of the mesh as a garland! Thanks for the chance and a BIG THANK YOU to FloraCraft for their generosity!!

    • Sharon says:

And I second your “thank you”, Barb. It sounds like you’re planning a big, beautiful bash — what fun! I know you’ll be crafting this weekend. Enjoy. Sharon

  40. I really like the wreath. It is lovely.

  41. Katiria says:

My summer crafts will actually involve making the decorations for my baby shower and maybe planning/starting our Halloween costumes. YUP I have to start planning early and work on it during weekends because I don’t have time especially once the new baby arrives.

    • Sharon says:

Sounds like you have a very fun summer line up planned. What’s the theme for Halloween this year? (I remember last year’s adorable Minion costume.) Have a wonderful weekend, Katiria. Sharon
