A favorite Duck Tape craft (and do I need a Duck Tape intervention?)

Am I the only one who scans the Duck Tape® display, always scouting for new patterns? Some days I wonder if I need a Duck Tape intervention. I added another roll to my stash this weekend when I noticed that my favorite Peacock Feather Duck Tape was back in stock at WalMart. Do you remember the Peacock Feather Duck Tape Christmas Wreath and Garland I made? Well, this pattern isn’t just for Christmas – here are the DIY Peacock Duck Tape Deco Spheres I made for a year-round display.

How pretty are these? And, these Duct Tape Deco Spheres are so super-fast and super-simple. You can easily make them for every season. I’ll skip the usual tutorial, and walk you through the two steps. Take your ball of STYROFOAM™ Brand Foam, any size will do, and your roll of Duck Tape, and then:

1. Tear a length of Duck Tape from the roll. Make it a length you find easy to work with; it could be as short as 18”, or as long as 30” – 36”. Much longer than that, however, and your tape will tangle.

2. Tear the strip into three strips. Wrap each strip around the ball of STYROFOAM Brand Foam till it’s covered. The tape will stick to itself, and there’s no need for glue. And that’s it!

And now I’m wondering if I should have bought two rolls of the Peacock Feather Duck Tape . . . Could I be a Duck Tape hoarder? Tell me I’m not the only one with a Duck Tape collection. Do you have a favorite pattern of Duck Tape?

  1. Oh! I am so jealous, duct tape in a variety of patterns is totally new to me here in the UK. Love the peacock one and the balls look fab too. Lx

Ooh, that is so unfair! You don’t have patterned duct tape in the UK? I think you need to call Manco, the Duck Brand people, and tell them it’s time to expand overseas! So glad you stopped in today. Thank you. Sharon

Two years ago I went on my first cruise – a crafting cruise sponsored by Michael’s craft store. It was amazing; we had lots of classes to choose from and were given so many wonderful products. Duck brand duct tape was one of the product partners. One night they opened a bunch of huge boxes of duct tape and duct tape sheets and invited us to take as many as we liked for a duct tape contest! We all grabbed at least a dozen rolls and sheets, but there were so many, they had a bunch left over at the end of the cruise and they let us raid the boxes again. Well, as I said, that was two years ago, and I still have probably 50 rolls left in all different patterns and colors. (My favorite is the baby pink with white dots!) So it’s always great to see duct tape project ideas, thank you for these!

  3. I had to laugh when you asked if you needed a duct tape intervention and saw how few rolls you have! I have over 100 rolls of it and still want more!!! I love this stuff and it comes in handy for so many reasons! Why use plain old tape if you can use fancy duct tape??

I really love the peacock feather one. I only have 5 rolls right now. Waiting for dh to build my craft table so I can get organized then buy the ones I really want. :)

    • Sharon says:

What fun — a new craft table and organization. I could use some craft supply organization, for sure. What else is on your list, once you get it all organized? Sharon

      • LisaM6 says:

I am going to make a few cupcakes in my daughter’s school colors for her to auction off. Now to find yellow and black papers or maybe try to find the supplies to make a basketball bulletin board like you showed. hmmmm, I best get started as the auction in now next Tuesday and my valentine inspired craft will not work for her.

      • Sharon says:

Surely there will be a spare cupcake (or two) for you? It sounds like you’ll have a busy weekend, creating in the kitchen and at the craft table. Enjoy it all! Sharon

I love duct tape! I have leopard, tiger, camo, Broncos, and several solid colors! I will have to look for the peacock tape!

  6. Karen says:

The colors I like are silver, white, black and zebra. I only own a roll of white as I live in a tiny place. As long as you make things with your tape you are okay. And if you grow tired of a pattern maybe trade it for another with a friend. Trading is good!

A duct tape trade — good idea. I just saw that the local library hosted a fabric swap and I thought that would be so much fun. There could be worse vices than collecting duct tape, right? Happy crafting to you, Karen. Thanks for stopping in. Sharon
