It’s Valentine Wreath Week on Crafts ‘n Coffee, and every day this week, I’ll have a new Valentine Wreath idea for you. Glitter, buttons, paper, felt – every wreath will be different, and I hope you’ll find a favorite. Like today’s Valentine Yarn Wreath by Patty Schaffer. Her variegated yarn in “shades of pink” is so pretty, and she uses my favorite technique for making a yarn wreath fast – chunky yarn! How could you not love Patty’s sparkling banner of X’s and O’s? Or the chunky buttons and glittery hearts? It’s all in the details, isn’t it?

To make a Valentine Yarn Wreath, you’ll need:

• STYROFOAM™ Brand Foam: 10” wreath
• Yarn, one skein
• Ribbon, 12” length
• Buttons, two large
• Cardstock in glitter and foil finishes
• Pearl head pins
• Straight pins
• Pop dots
• Low-temp glue gun
• Tools needed: Scissors; die-cut machine and X, O dies (optional)

To make a Valentine Yarn Wreath:

1. Pin one end of the yarn to the back of the wreath, and wrap the yarn around the wreath. As you wrap, make sure the yarn covers the wreath and you don’t have bare spots. When wreath is covered, pin the other end to the back of the wreath. Add a dab of glue for additional hold. Hint: You may find this easier if you wrap your skein of yarn into a ball before you start.

2. Trims ends of a 12” length of ribbon and pin it to the wreath. Angle the ribbon slightly, so the left side is lower than the right side. Pin on the large buttons using pearl head pins, anchoring the ribbon in place.

Buttons secure the ribbon garland to the wreath, and clothes pins hold the X’s and O’s in place.

3. Cut X’s and O’s from the cardstock using the die cut machine. Or, draw your own patterns and cut out your shapes with scissors. Hint: Cardstock will hold its shape and hang straighter than regular scrapbook paper.

4. Clip the X’s and O’s to the ribbon banner using the mini clothes pins.

Make your hearts different sizes and shapes, and cut them from assorted cardstock.

5. Cut assorted heart shapes from the glittered and foil cardstock. Glue largest heart to the lower, right-hand side of the wreath. Use pop dots to attach two smaller hearts, adding dimension.
