How do you display your Christmas cards? Kathleen George designed this Christmas Card Bulletin Board with a twine “clothesline” and miniature clothespins so you can easily display your favorite cards. Or, get a jumpstart on that inevitable New Year’s resolution to “get organized” and make a Clothesline Bulletin Board in fabrics that coordinate with your kitchen or home office. You can use it all year long to keep track of track of photos, lists, reminders, invitations, etc.

To make a Christmas Card Bulletin Board, you’ll need:

• STYROFOAM™ Brand Foam: 1” x 12” x 24” sheet (or other size 1” sheet that you can cut to size)
• Fabric: 1/3 yd. for center; 1/3 yd. for frame
• Thin quilt batting, 1/2 yd.
• Thick string or cord, 1-1/2 yd.
• Miniature spring clothespins
• Small wooden shapes
• Acrylic craft paints
• Satin ribbon, 3/8” wide
• Low-temp glue gun
• Tools needed: Sharp pencil; T-square or yardstick; craft pins; table knife; nail scissors; paintbrush

 To make a Christmas Card Bulletin Board:

1. Using a sharp pencil & T-square or straight edge, draw a 1” border all around the foam sheet. This is your “frame.” Draw a diagonal line in each corner.

2. Cut a 10” x 22” piece of quilt batting and glue it to the center of the foam sheet, inside the “frame.”

3. Cut a 10-3/4” x 22-3/4” piece of center fabric. Center fabric over the quilt batting. Using the table knife, “tuck” the fabric edges into the scored lines. Trim away threads and extra fabric with small nail scissors.

Fold fabric along the diagonal line to create mitered corners.

4. Cut batting strips for the frame: two strips 2” x 26” and two strips 2” x 12”. Using pins and glue, line up the strips along the scored lines on front, then wrap the batting strips around the sides and pin and glue in place on side edges. Trim away batting that extends beyond the sides. Trim excess batting at the corners, so the diagonal lines are exposed.

5. Cut two fabric strips 2-3/4” x 27” and two strips 2-3/4” x 12-1/2”. Tuck in the two shorter strips at the top and bottom and wrap the other edge around the sides and onto the back. Pin and glue to the back. Fold fabric at the corners and glue in place. Repeat with longer fabric strips.

Decorate the clothespins with painted wooden shapes.

6. Glue and pin on three “clotheslines” cut from thick string. Glue a small ribbon bow at each end.

7. Paint wooden shapes; let dry. Glue shapes onto the miniature clothespins.

8. Clip clothespins onto the “clotheslines” and use to hang cards.

9. Tie 8” length of ribbon into a loop. Glue and pin to the back of the foam sheet for hanger.
