I wasn’t supposed to post today . . . but because it’s the first day of school where I live, and my daughter was so excited to get on the bus this morning, we’re going to celebrate new beginnings (which can be fun and a little scary), yellow school buses, favorite teachers, cooler weather, and the start of the fall season.
Today, we’re giving away this colorful, back-to-school wreath to celebrate a new school year. It would look awesome in a front hallway or kitchen, or it would make a heartfelt gift for a favorite teacher. For your chance to win this “Welcome to School” Wreath, please leave a comment below and tell us your favorite back-to-school tradition or school memory.
If you would like to make the “Welcome to School” Wreath, the instructions are available in the October issue of Crafts ‘n Things magazine, on newsstands in Jo-Ann Stores and Michaels. (This issue is packed with dozens of crafts, from polymer clay to quilting, so even if you don’t want to make the wreath, you should still check it out. There’s something in there you “just have to make”!)
We’ll draw a winner on Friday, August 26, so I hope to hear from you soon.
Congratulations to Karen, who won our “Back to School” Wreath. Please contact me via the “Contact Us” tab above. Thank you.
Happy crafting.

I will never forget how grown up I felt when the teacher rolled in the TV cart and we all got to watch the Watergate scandal unfold.
me again! that was supposed to say kindergarten – 8th but somehow i must have used the symbols for a cool dude face and he popped up instead! lol
Thanks, Patty. What a yummy treat! Because you live near Pennsylvia Dutch country, I wonder if that’s a regional custom? Sharon
a memory i have of grade school… we had soft pretzels for snack at morning recess and i can still remember the plaid bags that they were in. the 8th graders put some in a bag for each grade (K – 8) in the morning when the pretzels were frozen and they thawed out for recess. the bag hung on the classroom doorknob and we would drop a dime into the bag for our pretzel at recess if we wanted one. i still have the coin purse that i’d take to school to hold my change. my mom saved it all these years and gave it to me. my kids used it when they were younger, too.
I remember being the milk helper. We would warm the milk cartons on the radiators and pass
out the warm milk in kindergarten.
Hi Pat, You’ve brought back a memory for me, too. I have a vague memory of passing out milk cartons, though ours were not warmed on a radiator. Thank you! Sharon
My daughter is starting Grade 1 this year!! It was so much fun getting the Back to School supplies as it brought back so many memories of when my Mom would take my sister and I shopping. Everything was so new and shinny, and the crayons and pencil crayons all had perfectly pointed tops!!
Hi Karen, Thank you for sharing your memories. I remember the new boxes of crayons, too. That was always a highlight of going back to school!
Hi Karen, You are the winner of our “Back to School” Wreath! Please select “Contact Us” at the top of the page to send a message with your address. Congratulations, and I hope you and your daughter enjoy the wreath. Sharon
I was once sended away from class because I was laughing with my friend, it was in fourth grade. But I didn’t care because there was someone else in the hallway which I was talking to. My mother wasn’t mad after all, she was laughing with it too!
But after all those years I really miss the first years of school, I’m now at highschool, studying for being a teacher for the little one’s, back to the past for me!
Good luck with your studies, Jelina. I hope you bring lots of laughter to your future classroom! Sharon
Hope she (and you!) have a great school year!!! It goes by so quickly – my daughter is a freshman in college this year!!!
Wow, that’s hard to believe, Pam. I hope your daughter also has a wonderful and successful year (and you get through it o.k., too). It’s all good! Sharon
